Right, it’s time to put down the sledgehammer, pick up the chisel and smash this block of marble into something Monashaped. Wait, what? Since when is Mona Lisa a painting?
Let’s pretend she’s a statue, I had a whole metaphor worked out.
Up until now we’ve been in concept phase. That’s like when the 6ft block of marble gets dropped at the house, and the sculptor (me) says “Imma make a statue!” What’s inside the block could be literally anything lots of ideas battered around, lots of designs, lots of sketches, lots of mechanics, lots and lots and lots of stories, styles and directions we could take it. During this period, the tool of choice has been a massive mallet hit this and see what happens. Bits broke off, fault lines were uncovered, flaws were detected, etc etc.
Then the King phones up and says “Where’s my statue?” and I look around at the ungainly lump of marble in the middle of my shed and the dust and rubble on the floor.
Playtime is over. It’s definitely chisel time, and we’ve got about 6 weeks before GDC to chisel this mother so that she looks good from a reasonable distance.
And I’ve just hired Team Chisel to get the job done… Please give an enormous Baconaut welcome to Noel, Ruby and Dave.
